We are delighted that you would like to become part of the [W]holehearted crew as a volunteer. The possibilities are manifold.
If you can imagine volunteering to help make the film, please fill out the form below. This helps us enormously to get an overview of all potential helpers and to be able to plan. Please select one or more areas (departments) that would interest you. Depending on your needs and the availability of helpers, we can then assign you to one of the areas. Below the form you will find more detailed information about the individual areas for which you can register.
We are looking forward to meeting you!
Explanation of the individual areas / departments
Production Assistant (P.A.) / Set-Runner
A production assistant (often called a “set runner” in Germany) is an entry-level job on the film set who can take on a variety of tasks depending on the needs of the film set. He supports his crew colleagues in all activities that arise, for example helping to cordon off and keep the set clean, handling actors and extras, making copies of scripts or serving coffee. So he is generally a helping hand wherever help is needed.
Production office / paperwork
A production assistant in the production office supports the crew with the day-to-day office work and paperwork on the set. They make calls and write emails when there are sudden changes in plans, they maintain and manage documents, forms, contracts and lists and keep minutes.
Hair & Make-Up
The hair and make-up staff, in coordination with the director, design the hairstyles and make-up for the actors. They provide all the necessary utensils. On the set, they then ensure that the actors have their hair and make-up done for their role and that they are ready by the time allotted for the shooting schedule.
Costume / Wardrobe
The staff in the costume department organise, procure and design the role clothing that the actors wear in the film in coordination with the director. On the set, they ensure that the right outfits are available at the right time and in the right condition, assist the actors in dressing and ensure that the costumes look believable on film.
Set decoration / production design
The set decoration staff design and organize the decoration for the sets in coordination with the director. They procure the decorative items and ensure on the set that the motifs are fully decorated by the time specified in the shooting schedule and that they look good and believable in the picture.
Props
The props staff organise, aquire and/or design, in coordination with the director, the utensils that the actors will hold in their hands later in the film. On the set, they then ensure that the right props are available at the right time in the required condition and look believable in the picture.
Catering / crafty
The catering department is responsible for arranging hot meals for the cast and crew, which are usually provided once a day of shooting. The Craft Services ("Crafty") team is responsible for providing snacks and beverages to the cast and crew throughout the day of shooting. The Crafty team is responsible for setting up the Crafty table early each day of shooting and stocking it with snacks, coffee and drinks throughout the day.
Driver / transport / logistics
A film crew's drivers transport the cast or crew either to and from set or between locations throughout the day. A driver can also be used for other purposes, e.g. for transporting props when the base camp is far away from the shooting location or for spontaneous errands.
Location / Set-Reinigung
The location department is responsible for organizing film locations and is the link between the film crew and the location owner. On set, staff ensure that the needs of the film crew and owners are met in the best possible way and that the locations are left in the same or better condition at the end of shooting than when production arrived.
Script supervisor / continuity
On the one hand, the script/continuity person ensures that the continuity in the film is maintained. This means that the details in the picture remain the same every time there are several shots of the same scene (e.g. that the glasses in the picture are equally full with each take, the clocks show the same time, the same objects are in the same place, etc.) She also logs all the information , which the cutter later needs for editing the recorded film images. The prerequisite for this task is therefore a good grasp of the smallest details and good concentration and, ideally, experience in this area.
Technical departments
If you want to help the camera, lighting, grip or sound crew, you can basically tick that. However, since this is a demanding area of work and we already hire an experienced and well-established team in this area, we cannot promise any positions here and leave this decision to the relevant department heads. In any case, the prerequisite for this task is a good technical understanding, awareness of occupational safety and, preferably, previous experience in the relevant area.
